My goodness, the news is true. Madonna and Guy Ritchie are heading for a divorce. I thought this couple would last forever.

The couple announced the news in a statement, reading, “Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time.”

But according to The Sun, Ritchie — the director of British gangster films including “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” — has become frustrated. Mainly because, he sees his superstar spouse as a “dead weight around his neck” and now wants a divorce to be agreed quickly, the source was quoted as saying.

“Guy’s said if they were going to split, it has to be now — and their marriage will finally be over in a matter of weeks,” the source told The Sun.

Now, how about their children?

The couple have an eight-year-old son, Rocco, and a three-year-old son adopted in Malawi, David Banda. Madonna also has a daughter, 12-year-old Lourdes, by her former fitness trainer Carlos Leon.

I believe that Madonna will fight the custody for the kids. After all, she is the mother of the kids. Maybe Rocco will follow his dad instead.

Now, how about their fortune?

The Sunday Times Rich List estimated the couple’s joint fortune at £300 million, but the vast majority is thought to stem from the singer’s long recording career. Madonna could deploy the “millionaire’s defence”, arguing that much of her fortune was acquired before the marriage. What was acquired during the marriage will then be on the table.

The divorce could lead to a record payout of more than £100 million to Guy Ritchie. As the couple want a settlement by Christmas, Madonna and Ritchie could also become the first famous couple to agree their split with the new fast-track US-style collaborative approach, under reforms announced this week. This may mean a deal being agreed out of court within weeks and a consent order being approved by a judge within a few days. But if they fail to agree swiftly, the break-up may go to court. The collaborative approach would also bring them privacy.

With London now the divorce capital of the world, Ritchie would obtain the biggest deal here, if the couple agree to divorce through the English legal system.

Why celebrities’ divorces are so messy and massy in fortune? No wonder, they help to bring news worthy to the media helping them to make millions.
